Our Mission

Florece Farms’ mission is to introduce palates to a variety of gourmet mushrooms that have not been readily available in the past. While producing fresh, highly nutritional food, we’re also doing our part to help reinvigorate Puerto Rico’s agricultural industry.

Our History

In December of 2015, Florece Farms acquired a partially completed 175,000 square foot high tech hydroponic facility in Morovis, which is 60 km west of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The investment was made to help reinvigorate Puerto Rico’s agriculture industry and to provide a model for future agricultural entrepreneurs interested in starting their own farms.

Florece Farms is doing its best to reverse the decline of agriculture in Puerto Rico. In the early 1900’s, agriculture generated 70% of the island’s GDP, which has declined to approximately 0.5% today. The Morovis farm was capable of producing over 2 million pounds of fresh food annually, on an island that imports 90% of its food.

The project had been originally sponsored by the municipality in 2009, but they ran short of funds. Florece completed the facility and started growing 44,000 tomato plants in October of 2016. 100% of production was sold through 5 Sam’s Club stores.

Unfortunately, the Morovis facility was severely damaged by Hurricane Maria in September of 2017. Florece has restarted production of food in the form of gourmet specialty mushrooms.

By locally producing highly quality, fresh produce in a high-tech, soilless system, and developing a skilled workforce through on-the-job training programs, Florece Farms seeks to help fulfill agriculture’s potential to create tens of thousands of quality jobs and dramatically improve food security for Puerto Rico and the USVI.
